Elected Chapter Board of Directors Members
Jim Coyle, Senior Project Manager – Pankow Builders
Jim Coyle is a Sr. Project Manager at Pankow Builders and leads the green building group in San Francisco. He serves on the board of directors for the USGBC Northern California Chapter, where he has been deeply involved in local advocacy, contractor outreach, and championing existing building efficiency. His professional career has involved commercial projects throughout the United States. Jim has managed or consulted on numerous LEED projects and efficiency upgrades. Jim is a past board member of CSI San Francisco, a past chair of its Green Committee, and a member of the BOMA Environment Committee. He is involved in a number of personal environmental and community organizations including the Sierra Club and Rebuilding Together.
Lisa Michelle Galley, Managing Principal – Galley Eco Capital
Lisa Michelle Galley leads the green finance consulting practice at Galley Eco Capital. She is Treasurer of the US Green Building Council’s Northern California Chapter and was also an advisor to San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom’s Task Force on Existing Building Efficiency. She is part of the winning Low2No competition team, providing green finance advice for the winning design of a low carbon district for Sitra, the innovation agency of the Finnish government.
Lisa's deep real estate finance and investment experience comes from more than 23 years experience with creating and implementing finance, investment and operations programs for institutional real estate lenders, investors and asset managers. Bilingual in English and German, she was responsible for managing an international real estate lending group, arranging several billion dollars in investments for real estate investors in the US and several European countries. During her career, she financed some of the country’s earliest LEED-certified developments. From that, she developed the deep expertise that has made her a sought after advisor and thought leader on green financing and urban sustainability.
Lisa has authored papers, trains and speaks regularly about green finance. She is the course author of Underwriting for Green Multifamily Development, to be taught at the Federal Reserve Bank’s influential National Community Development Lending School in 2010. She is co-author of Metrics for Responsible Property Investing: Developing and Maintaining a High Performance Portfolio, recently presented at the Urban Land Institute.
Matt Macko, Principal – Environmental Building Strategies
Through hands-on experience in the construction and development fields, Matt Macko came to appreciate firsthand the need for progress in green building. From the University of Colorado Leeds School of Business, Matt received degrees in both economics and finance as well as an Entrepreneurial Certification. Meanwhile, he was the President of the University of Colorado's Real Estate Club and the owner of two successful businesses. During schooling and as a post-graduate, Matt successfully built and managed one of the greenest residential projects in Connecticut. He is now a LEED Accredited Professional, RESNET Energy Rater, Certified Green Building Professional, and Certified Sustainable Building Advisor, as well as Chair of the Bay Area LEED Users Group (BAyLUG), board member of the California Deconstruction and Reuse Network, active member of the Northern California Chapter of the USGBC, and member of the Emerging Green Builders. Matt recently returned from Washington D.C. where he co-wrote the new LEED 2009 exam. As a result, he regularly presents on the changes to LEED throughout Northern California.
Remi Tan, Architect, Sustainability Consultant, RE Broker/Investor - Manager/Founder - S.A.A. Equities, LLC
Brandon Tinianov, Chief Technology Officer – Serious Materials
Dr. Tinianov is a recognized expert in building science and in the creation and patenting of novel construction materials to support global sustainability initiatives. A registered Professional Engineer, LEED Accredited Professional, and consistent Bay Area bike commuter, Dr. Tinianov is devoted to implementing globally sustainable practices in both his professional and personal life. Brandon is an experienced leader of volunteer organizations, serving for two years as the founding chairman of the Silicon Valley Branch of the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and also serving as an Executive Officer of American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) Committee E60 on Sustainability. He often serves as an advisor and a “designated expert” on various ISO and ANSI working groups on the topics building and environmental design.
Prior to joining Serious Materials in 2004, Dr. Tinianov provided eight years of leadership to the Building Sciences and Engineering Applications Center of Excellence at Johns Manville Corporation in Denver, CO, where his areas of focus included noise and vibration control and energy management. As an inventor, Dr. Tinianov has 12 issued patents and holds more than twenty pending applications.
