Sprint's first pilot store in their LEED for Retail Portfolio achieved a LEED Certificied rating as of March 2009. Dan Geiger, USGBC-NCC Executive Director, presented the plaque in a ceremony on July 16th. The store was renovated with green features including efficient lighting, Energy Star equipment, thermal comfort controls, green power, efficient plumbing fixtures, recycling, and green housekeeping. Green Features in the Store:
- Lighting design that uses 15% less energy than standard (conserve energy)
- Over 70% of equipment in store is Energy Star rated (conserve energy)
- Plumbing fixtures that are 30% more efficient than standard (control water waste)
- Re use of 30% of on site furniture and 60% reuse of interior walls and ceilings (conserving resources and reducing environmental impact)
- Improved HVAC comfort for over 50% of occupants (thermal comfort)
- In store Recycling Program
- Store is located in Non Smoking Building by local code (employee Health)
- Store is located in Dense urban market (Protect and avoid new Greenfield development)
- Site is located by mass transit for optional transportation (reduce fuel consumption-conserve energy)
Green Operational Features:
- Bicycle racks and storage is available within the building for staff or customers (reduce fuel consumption-conserve energy)
- Heating and Cooling that is 15% more efficient than standard (conserve energy)
- Improved fresh air control and CO2 monitoring installed in duct work above ceiling (employee health)
- During Construction we diverted 50% of demolition materials from going to landfill by recycling.
- Electricity and Water Utilities are on dedicated Sprint Meter vs. Landlord meter so we can monitor utility usage for variability
- Purchased “Green Power” for electrical utility (Renewable Energy)
- Initiated Green Housekeeping contracts (Environmental protection)
