A registered Architect and LEED AP, Brian is recognized as an expert in the area of green building and sustainable design and construction and is personally dedicated to making high-performance and renewable-energy systems more prevalent in commercial construction projects. His lectures have helped to educate building owners and industry professionals on environmental and passive design, photovoltaics and other advanced technologies. While managing the Sacramento office of Green Building Services, Brian serves a variety of clients and project types in California, bringing a working knowledge of how to apply sustainable strategies during the design and construction process, and supporting the team to make the best strategic decisions while taking into account budget and schedule. Brian also facilitates “eco-charrettes” to help project teams set goals for creating high-performance buildings. He believes in an integrated and collaborative approach to sustainable design. GBS is a third party reviewer for the Collaborative for High Performance Schools, and GBS Sacramento is bringing their expertise to a number of Colleges and K-12 school districts.
Prior to working with GBS, Brian served as a Senior Architect with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), where he worked to achieve the utility’s energy efficiency goals for new residential and commercial projects in Sacramento City, County, Folsom and Galt. While at SMUD he applied his expertise to a wide range of projects including the CalEPA Headquarters Building, the East End Complex, the DPR/ABD Office Building and the CalPERS Headquarters Expansion. Brian was the LEED Accredited Professional and worked with a specially selected project team that spearheaded efforts to achieve LEED Existing Building Platinum certification for the 290,000 square foot SMUD Customer Services Center (CSC). Brian’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond his daily professional career; he serves as the Chair of the City of Sacramento’s Design Commission, is the Chair of the AIA Central Valley Chapter Committee on the Environment, and is a founding member of USGBC-NCC.
Brian teaches LEED & Green Building Workshops for USGBC-NCC.
