Join us for an evening of panel discussions followed by an open discussion on CA's current water crisis. This event is to build collaborative relationships with all like-minded disciplines in the area. An excellent overview of the water situation will be presented as well as transformational solutions that are needed in order curb the crisis.
Panel Speakers and Topics:
Dr. Harold Leverenz, PE, PhD. Environmental Engineering. Harold's expertise includes analysis of decentralized and satellite wastewater reuse systems, development of natural treatment systems, audits of wastewater system based energy use, determination of greenhouse gas emissions, and analysis of source control systems for nutrient and energy recovery.
Urban water systems of the future are evolving now. New designs and implementations will need to integrate other aspects of municipal economy and services such as energy, industrial ecology, materials recovery in addition to traditional public health and environmental protection. A business model will need to shift from payment for services to value creation.
Bill Worthen, FAIA, LEED AP is the founder of Urban Fabrick, Inc., a consulting and communications company specializing in sustainable building, green codes training and peer-to-peer professional education focused on the value of climate positive development and the business of collaborative design.
Bill Worthen will present on the practical reality we are currently facing. He will aslo provide a vision for designers, policy makers, and real estate professional for the future of water design. Bill's presentation will cover water use and reuse opportunities in new and existing buildings and present ideas on how to start thinking about water as a design issue and an important resource to consider on almost any scale of project work.
Neil Steiner, Energy Analyst, LEED BD+C, LBC Ambassador/Facilitator is responsible for modeling lighting, plumbing, HVAC, renewable energy, and envelope systems for new and existing buildings at Glumac.
Neil will be presenting the International Living Future Institute’s Living Building Challenge Net Zero Water Imperative. This will be an overview of what is needed to achieve Net Zero Water.
Susan Rainier, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, LBC Ambassador/Facilitator is committed to promoting clean environments that support health and wellness in all aspects of life recognizing this as vital to true sustainability and for living in harmony with nature.
Susan will be speaking about the principles of Permaculture; personal behavior changes needed by all and will present principles for protecting water for people and the planet for future generations.
