Presented by the Placerville branch of the American Association of University Women in partnership with the USGBC – Northern California Chapter.
This tour features seven sites in the Placerville, Garden Valley and Lotus area (greater Sacramento) with solar, geothermal, energy neutral straw bale construction, use of reclaimed building materials, native plant and drought tolerant gardens, plus fun & fanciful art made from recycled materials including an amazing 20 foot long fire breathing dragon! The first of 7 stops, the new and innovative ANOVA Architects Studio in Placerville is a living learning center for green building techniques and has received a LEED Gold rating.
Three of the homes are located on the South Fork of the American River in historic Lotus near the 1848 gold discovery site. One home, designed in a relaxing Zen like craftsman style, is a totally “green” remodel. Three homes are new construction with unusual and interesting architectural as well as green features. One of the gardens has extensive owner built river rock stonework retaining walls, planter beds, and a pondless waterfall and stream. Another garden features whimsical planting fixtures and garden art, a greenhouse made completely from reclaimed materials, and a vegetable garden that helps to feed a community.
