Outdoor Lighting: Changing the Conversation

Nancy Clanton, renowned expert in sustainable lighting design, calls it “safety in numbers” - the default for illuminance, measured footcandles. It’s the bane of lighting designers and a major challenge in reconciling appropriate illumination levels with client expectations. One size does not fit all. What we see is reflected light so intensity, glare, color rendering, contrast and adaptation play the pivotal roles in the visual experience. Lighting technology continues to advance at a rapid rate so collaboration and testing alongside key constituents is crucial to achieve the right light solutions. Rick Utting, Director of Lighting at Landscape Forms, will present the latest guidance and technology that leave participants armed to evaluate outdoor lighting for future projects.
